My First Magical Experience at LeakyCon
What is a LeakyCon? for those that might be asking. LeakyCon (named after the Leaky Cauldron pub found in the series) happens to be the popular Harry Potter fan convention that has been held all over the world in exciting locations like Boston, London, and Dublin. And now officially in Texas. This event was held in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center this past weekend (Aug. 10-12) and was the biggest LeakyCon yet. The sold-out show was packed with panels, celebrities, a bustling marketplace and more cosplay than you can wave a wand at – all brought together with a love for J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World.
As I am still recovering from LeakyCon this past weekend, I wanted to share my experience with all you guys. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from LeakyCon. While I am a fan of Harry Potter, it was my first experience with this particular Con. This was quite a change from the comic conventions that I have attended before, so I was a bit iffy. However, it did not take long to realize that LeakyCon far surpassed my expectations. First and foremost, Harry Potter fans are the best. Seriously, the best. Fandom is a great thing to be a part of in general, but I have never experienced such a level of acceptance, sincerity, and openness from any other cons I have ever met. The vendor booths were amazing; from potions, graphic tees, an endless variety of wands, golden snitch bath bombs, hats, and beautiful illustrations. The cosplay and outfits from kids all the way to adults were awesome. I just love walking around and everyone was just happy and happy to share their passion for the love of the wizardry world with others.
If you ever get the chance to attend, I’m telling you, DO IT. LeakyCon is such a positive, friendly experience. The response to LeakyCon's Dallas stop was so strong that its organizers are already planning the encore. The 2019 event will be Aug. 9-11, and tickets are on sale now.
