Squad Up! DIY Suicide Squad Katana

Hey everyone! I know I haven't been on here for a minute. I been planning and gearing up for this day and it's finally here!  I am officially entered into the DC Comics Squad Up! Suicide Squad Cosplay Contest – which voting starts tomorrow July 1st at 10 am. Rule: You have to dress up as one of the characters from the upcoming movie, Suicide Squad. Result: Katana

I decide to enter as Katana, a.k.a. Tats Yamashiro, who is not only a skilled martial artist, but also a master swordsman who wields the Soultaker. Her blade captures the souls of its victims (including her husband Maseo Yamashiro), allowing Katana to communicate with them.

While the Suicide Squad is primarily composed of super villains that are eager to get reduced prison sentences, not everyone on the team is a criminal. Case in point, Katana, who in the DC Comics universe is a superhero that’s been a member of the Justice League and The Outsiders. In the comics, Katana joined forces with the Suicide Squad to help them prevent an shipment of weapons from being sold to the Yakuza. It’s unclear whether Suicide Squad’s Katana will be a crimefighter that willingly joins the Squad or if she’s one of the nicer inmates that’s been forced onto the team.

I am so excited for this fun challenge because my daughter and I can't wait until the movie drops in theatres in August. She is one of our favorite comic book characters that embodies, "GIRL POWER!" and the overall prize is amazing – tickets to the largest Comic Con that happens at the end of July in San Diego. I would love to fly out there and cover that experience for #myeverydaylifestyle blog. This was a fun DIY costume to make that can be used for future Comic Cons or Halloween. I couldn't have done it without my own creative squad and thankful for all their help and supporting me.

Please help cast your votes for me here in this link: SUBJ2Rules@bit.ly/dcsquadVoting ends July 4th. Help spread the word. Thanks everyone! - xo Mel
